New nitrogen plant Zuidbroek operational at the start of 2023
The construction of the nitrogen installation in Zuidbroek is almost complete. Unfortunately, it is not possible to produce the first nitrogen in November. Although additional staff has been deployed in recent months to speed up construction, insufficient manpower was available to complete the work on the planned time. Construction is now expected to be completed by the end of this year. The first nitrogen production is then planned for early 2023. The adjusted planning has no consequences for the required gas extraction from the Groningen field needed for the security of supply.
No consequences for the Groningen productionGTS expects no effect on the required Groningen production for the security of supply for the current gas year (October 2022-October 2023) because the market demand has decreased considerably. As a result, Gasunie’s existing nitrogen installations can supply sufficient production.
Ten billion m3 pseudo Groningen gasWith the commissioning of the nitrogen installation in Zuidbroek, a maximum of ten billion m3 of pseudo Groningen gas can be produced annually based on the addition of nitrogen to imported gas.
